As more and more shows are being filmed it is very important the lighting and sound are right.  For example, a well-rehearsed dance routine will only look as good both ‘live’ in the venue or ‘captured’ on a DVD if it is lit correctly.  Lighting also can be used to; set the scene, enhance an energetic performance, draw in the audience with a carefully lit moody or sad song, invoke emotion or simply light the stage with a theme or your dance schools colours.

Equally sound is just as important.  Did you know humans gain more than 70% of information through the sense of hearing?  For this reason it is very important that everyone, both ‘live’ in the venue or ‘captured’ on a recording has good quality clear (which doesn’t have to mean loud) audio.  Dancers performing a routine, a group or soloist performing a musical theatre piece, to a person making an announcement or voice over, will only sound as good the as the sound system, fold back monitors, microphones, playback devices being used and the sound engineer mixing the audio to achieve a great balance.

The Vicar of Dibley

We have just provided full technical production support for STARS in Darlington, an amateur dramatic society, who staged their performance of The Vicar of Dibley at St Augustine’s Parish Centre. We work a lot with STARS, who have a great team, which we have been involved with for many years. With most people knowing the very popular TV series, this show had to live up to high expectations and the tech we supplied had to match. We had plenty of work in sound to do, including using radio microphones with the cast. Lighting was full stage lighting, with both generic and moving head fixtures.

Fantastic performances from  it was a great show to be involved with!

Fashion Show

Monday 10th April 2017 we provided lighting and production support, for a charity fashion show by Jayne Ladies Boutique.

Having worked with them many times before and having had a site meeting, we were able to plan our lighting design in advance of the show, so that on the day we could load the equipment into the venue knowing exactly where every lighting fixture was to be placed, making setting up much more efficient. Having a detailed design also enabled us to address all our fixtures in advance at our base, to program the main elements of the show into the lighting console and to run a visualizer, giving us a chance to see how it would look.

We received great feedback from the show and we are continuing to plan the lighting design for their fashion show they are putting on this year.

Pantomime Sound and Lighting

Christmas means pantomimes for us. Which means plenty of Pantomime Sound and Lighting hires!

We are always very busy supplying and operating at productions. We recently we were brought on board to supply, set up and operate the full technical production for the pantomime Dick Whittington.  This included the whole stage lighting rig, with flown Generics, Moving Head fixtures, LED units, various smoke effects and pyrotechnics along with video effects and a pre – recorded dream sequence that we had to play back. 

We also provided Sound, including numerous radio mic channels, along with playback of audio effects. With a small orchestra in the pit, we had plenty of work in sound to do.  

It was a great show to be involved with and as always fantastic performances from all the cast, with a great stage crew to go along with them.

Richmond Meet

May 30th was the annual Richmond Meet 2017, a Charity Event with the aims to raise the much needed and valuable funds from donations to help local charitable organisations.  CDB Production Solutions were brought on board to supply all the sound and production support for the acts that were performing during the day. There were a wide range of styles and something for everyone with performances from Darlington Operatic Society (DOS), The Musical Time Machine, Richmondshire Youth Theatre (RYT) and we even got belly dancing and a Zumba demonstrations.

It was a great family fun day with the float parade, stalls, fun fair and the live music.  We are already looking forward to providing our services for the next one!

We are proud to be supporting the Freeman Heart Lung Transplant Association (FHLTA) providing technical and production support for their events.  The Freeman Heart Lung Transplant Association is a voluntary organisation consisting of heart and or lung transplant recipients, families and their supporters.

The Aims and Objectives of the Freeman Heart Lung Transplant Association

  • To relieve Heart & Lung transplant patients of the Freeman Hospital, who are sick and convalescing or in need of assistance, advice or facilities for recreation in order to improve their conditions of life and generally support the charitable work of the said hospital.
  • To advance the education of the public in the needs of transplantation and to mobilise, encourage, foster and maintain the interest and support of the public.
  • To give and exchange information and advice to promote education in all matters relating to transplantation.
  • To provide or assist in the provision of amenities in the Freeman Hospital including equipment, which may be needed for the benefit of Heart and Lung transplant patient

This weekend we were with them for a charity fundraiser in Newcastle.  We provided all the sound for the band that were booked for the evenings entertainment.  This included two stacks of our D&B ‘C’ series professional sound systems for front of house (FOH) and some of our FBT’s as monitor mixes, for the band on stage. All the instruments we fully mic’d up.  This allows use to have the band turned down on stage and let us mix the band ‘out the front’ from the audience perspective, enabling us to create the perfect balance or ‘mix’.  We had a great night and are already looking forward to the next event.  The Charity Ball.  Check there website for details.

Steve Davis - Sound Hire

Professional Snooker

Thursday 5th November 2015 we provided sound hire and operation for professional snooker player and current world champion Stuart Bingham who played an exhibition match at Darlington Snooker Club.  A fantastic night at a fantastic venue with a packed crowd, who even got to have their picture taken with the world championship trophy.

Friday 5th February 2016 we were once again at Darlington Snooker Club providing sound for professional snooker player, six times world champion, Steve Davis. He played 10 frames against audience members then rounded the night off with some great trick shots. A really friendly and funny person and great appreciative crowd. A fantastic night!

pantomime, Beauty and the Beast

Pantomime

Christmas means pantomimes for us. This year we had three productions to supply and operate at. First it was STEPPS pantomime in Darlington who put on ‘Beauty and the Beast’ – Performed in Bondgate Hall Theatre. We were brought on board to supply, set up and operate the full technical system for them which included the stage lighting rig, with flown Moving Head fixtures and LED units. Radio microphones were also supplied and we mixed the sound for them for the run of the production.

Next we were with the Sedgefield Players who put on their pantomime version of Aladdin. As always great performances from the cast, with a great stage crew to go along with them. We provided Sound, including radio mic systems and playback along with lighting and effects which consisted of full stage lighting, smoke machines, UV and pyrotechnics.

The third was with STARS in Darlington, who put on their performance of The Adventures of Mr Toad at St Augustine’s Parish Centre. Not strictly a pantomime but a “child friendly musical” with “goodies” and baddies”. We work a lot with STARS, who have a great team, which we have been involved with for many years. This year the show had grown in size and what we supplied had to match. With a small orchestra / band in the pit, we had plenty of work in sound to do, including using radio microphones with the cast. Lighting was full stage lighting, with moving head fixtures. All that combined with a moving smoke effects, it was a great show to be involved with!
